Hue Festival 2012, which will take place on April 7-15, will be the highlight of next year’s National Tourism Year, according to a press conference in Ho Chi Minh City on Sep 15.
Cultural Heritage with Integration & Development will be the theme of coming biennial international event, which will be held for the seventh time.
The festival will showcase distinctive Vietnamese performance art, with a focus on the Hue royal arts.
Presentations on ethnic minority culture as well as performances by more than 20 leading art troupes from five continents will also be part of the event.
In addition, the nine-day event will re-enact unique royal ceremonies together with a wide range of unprecedented and exciting community events, including Imperial Night with royal banquets, the Nam Giao Offering Ritual, the A Peaceful World dance performance and music combined with lantern installations.

According to the organizers, the event will include a dialogue of drums and percussion instruments themed The Resonance of the Vietnamese Spirit. A film festival titled Week of Historical Vietnamese Films will also take place.
Other activities includes a seminar with the theme of Business Community with Cultural Heritages, installations art displays, the Children’s Festival, the Hue Poetry Festival and fascinating food offerings.
The event will also include the annual 13th conference of the League of Historical Cities. Eighty city members of 55 countries will join the three-day event.
Hue Festival 2010 featured 1,906 local and foreign artists, and welcomed 130,000 tourists, including 30,000 foreign ones.
Speaking at the Sep 15 press conference, the festival director Phan Tien Dung said that Hue Festival 2012 is expected to boost the number of tourist to the province up to 2.5 million per year, in comparison to 1.7 million in 2010.
Dung said that with more than 200 hotels and hundreds of guesthouses, offering more than 28,000 rooms, as well as other well-built infrastructure, the province is able to serve million of tourists.
“There’s no so-called run-out-of-room in Hue as reported by local media,” Dung said. “During peak season, there’s still available rooms in the place.”
According to Nguyen Quang Tuan, director of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Hue Festival 2012 is part of a series of tourism activities to be held during 2012 in the central region.
Other activities in the series include Charming Vietnam Gala held by Thanh Nien Media Corp, the Southeast Asia Chess Tournament, the Central Gastronomy Festival, the 2nd International Choir Festival, Vietnam Cave Exploration Month, and others, to be held in Thua Thien Hue and neighboring provinces.
Tuan said these activities are expected to promote and develop Vietnam tours brand vertically. The country welcomed nearly four million foreign tourists in the first eight months this year.
