Qantas, bronze and about 80,000 points.
I've been lucky enough to have taken two American trips on frequent flyer points.
Booked about a year ahead both times and got great service.

Qantas, Gold, about 185,000 points.
A few weeks ago I had a bad back in Brisbane so I upgraded for 7500 points to Business Class. All good except that the seat recliner/adjuster didn't work. I rang Qantas when I got back and brought the issue to their attention not really expecting anything. They couldn't refund my 7500 points but they did send me a Qantas voucher for $200. That was more than I expected to get (which was zero). Only catch with the voucher was I had to physically redeem it at Qantas travel.

Nice, only 7500 points to upgrade to business, where were you flying from?
Good to hear Qantas sent you something at least in compensation

Brisbane-Adelaide. 7,500 was the price one way. I have a feeling the price may be standard for CityFlyer flights, but could be wrong.

Hello munitalP,
I was in Shanghai for a couple of days earlier this year.
How are you getting from the airport to the City? Picked up, or doing it yourself?
If yourself, how?

I will be staying in a 5* hotel for the first few days in China, I expect there will be a hotel limo / shuttle to cater for my needs. I generally use these over taxi's (except SIN where I have a driver I use) as it is a lot safer.
You can keep track of my travels on www.bad-umpires.com where I have a personal travel blog

Wow, can i have your job!
My wife had QF Platinum when we lived in London, loved it! using the first class lounge at heathrow, getting upgrated to Business, First Class checkin!! now she is bronze
What you think about the 2 FF programs in OZ - Qantas and DJ - also the lounges, one better than the other?

LOL, you dont want my stressful job...
I only have status with DJ as a couple of routes I frequently fly are either CRASH8's on QF or DJ Embraers - the choice is simple, jets... I wouldn't spend money on joining a DJ lounge, however, if I had to, I would purchase a QF club membership - the reason? The QF Club is able to be used world wide - DJ, maybe not...
I don't like DJ, I never have, those who know me will contest that I avoid DJ where ever possible, but out of the need for quicker flights, DJ often get my bum in their seats - ROK/BNE / MEL/Tasmania etc...

In my opinion, sure DJ have pretty girls from check in to FA's, but I want service with a smile more than silly joking around during safety announcements, and all the other "funny" things the DJ staff do. I agree that QF could improve some of its FA's attitudes, but I travel for business, usually at peak hours, so like the advert on TV used to say - I like my beer at night and my paper in the morning...
My choice for customer service - remembering I am in QF's eyes a very frequent traveller, is very good. DJ, well I'm just another number who gets priority check in, but at the end of the day, still has to open his wallet for anything other than that.

G'day, long time between posts so I guess I don't even know if it will be read...
I have a link below bad-umpires, ignore that, the link to my travel blog is www.kennys-adventures.com, kenny being a stuffed Koala wife and I bought in Australia and has travelled to China with us.
Since my last post, again Mrs munitalP has achieved partner Gold ( ) with Qantas, and I have retained Silver status on Virgin. I have been travelling a lot to and from KTA, so the status points add up quickly, in fact, I think I have earned 800 ish since my end of october reset of my QF FF account.
In answer to the connection question RE Shanghai, we ended up taking a cab from PVR to our hotel in Pudong - it had snowed in Shanghai that day and was too cold to muck about waiting for transfer coaches or worry about the train.
We travelled by 1st class train from Shanghai to Beijing some 5 days later, then Beijing to Harbin by 1st class train 6 days after that (in the new year) to the Harbin snow and ice festival. 1st class overnight sleeper back to Beijing 4 or 5 days later, then 2nd class (mistake when booking) Beijing back to Shanghai.
We used the 450km/h MagLev train from Shanghai to PVR a few days later - awesome!!!
